Leviticus
Ann Spencer
I was called on the phone by a local member of the American Mustang and Burro Association in October 1996 to help find a good home for a 16.2 hand 4 yr old bay
gelding due to circumstances. The original adopter was no longer able to care for him. I drove to take photos and eventually "adopted" him after he was titled by the BLM.
I began his training - he was barely halter-broke - and started him under saddle. He had dressage potential, so i sent him to a local dressage/eventing trainer.
He progressed quickly and in six months attended his first rated dressage show, winning both First Level classes. He won the prestigious United States Dressage
Federation's All-Breeds Award at First Level in 1998, Second Level in 1999, Third Level in 2001, and the International Level of Prix St Georges in both 2005 and 2006,
beating many Warmbloods worth tens of thousands of dollars.
"Levi" has many fans and is now leased out as a schoolmaster in the Los Angeles area. He is still showing and
schooling Grand Prix. He remains sound and happy and loves jumping and long trail rides. He grew to 17 hands back in 1997/98 and most are shocked to see a formerly wild
mustang get that tall. He has always been barefoot and loves people.
Levi is the sixth mustang I have trained. My first BLM adoption was in 1976, a 4 yr old black mare
with 5 month old chestnut colt at side. In 1986, I purchased two still-wild ones from a couple in Bakersfield and rode them both for many years.
I acquired a still-wild 2 yr. old ( already titled ) stud that the vet named "Hot Rod" who ended up being a fantastic gelding that I sold to the Horsemanship
program at the Thatcher School in Ojai.
I am the current Treasurer for the Central Coast (of California) Chapter of the American Mustang and Burro Association.
This local club is right now involved in re-hab and re-homing mustangs. I have an advertisement right now for "Legend" on the Bay Area Equestrian Network web site
who is perfect for Dressage or any discipline.
